
Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born on July 12 1988[1,] is a Canadian actor and singer from Canada. O'Neil is the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season, was awarded the title in 2005. O'Neil is known for her work on Syfy's sci-fi series Dark Matter. O'Neil was popular for her character in The Rookie as Officer Lucy Chen. O'Neil was placed as being in the bottom two or three of the finals. The judges were stunned by this and encouraged viewers to vote Melissa for her vocal talent. O'Neil's performance was consistently praised and O'Neil did not fall back to the bottom 3. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a chance to win everything". O'Neil and Rex Goudie both made it to the second round of the contest on September 7 in 2005. After another impressive performances, Werner declared that "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away, long live Queen". O'Neil defeated Goudie in the grand finale results shows on September 14, 2005 , to be crowned the third Canadian Idol.
