Awkwafina
Awkwafina started out as a American rapper and singer, performing sly tunes that dealt with questions of race and sexuality with a humorous twist. In the years before she stepped to Hollywood the singer was able to make a few songs. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her very first music experience. She played the trumpet. In the following years, she took up hip-hop and classical training. In the college years, she remained focused on her studies and took up a degree in women's studies and journalism. In a short period during her time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also offered. After graduating, it wasn't until that she shifted her focus towards music. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an online hit, and it was featured in her debut album Yellow Ranger. Some other hits that went viral included queef, a body positive track and the eye-catching NYC Bitchecity tour. The track that was second on the album linked to Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide that was published in 2015, which was a different initiative. As a musician and an author as her credentials, she determined to pursue an actor for a third venture. Aside from early TV programs like Girl Code and Tawk, she's been featured in movies like Neighbors2Storks, and Bad Rap. She had a breakthrough role in the year 2018, with several movies that were highly regarded, such as Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
